Pastor Marcel has been serving Tokyo's Homeless since 2012. He arrived to Japan in July of 1999 and as a young man sought ways to help those in need. Arriving to Shinjuku in his early teens, Marcel discovered several houses belonging to the homeless at Shinjuku Central Park. He quickly began building relationships with the homeless community. After a dear friend, Nishikawa san a homeless man of 10 years passed away, Marcel decided that more needed to be done. In 2017 Akiramenai Homeless Program was born and in 2 years Marcel and his team of volunteers helped 12 homeless people from ages 30-80 years old rehabilitate out of homelessness and back into society.
Now Shinjuku city is stricken with even more poverty and that among the youth as well as the aging population. The Shinjuku Care center is aimed to be a lighthouse for all those in need of assistance in the Tokyo area.
